１９６０年代、学生だったサムやサラたちは固い友情で結ばれていた。だが、仲間の一人アレックスが８３年のある日、自殺する。そして彼らは、思いもよらなかった友人の葬儀で久々に顔を合わせるのだった。実業家のハロルドと医者になったサラは結婚し、サムは俳優、ニックは麻薬の運び屋、マイケルは記者、メグは弁護士になっていた。そのままハロルド夫妻の別荘で過ごすことになった彼らは学生時代を懐かしみ、アレックスが自殺した原因を語り合う。そのうち、サムは学生時代に惹かれていたカレンと２人きりになるのだが…。1983年米。
