Soundtrack Magazine is proud to present the world premiere CD release of composer Lim Giong’s original motion picture score composed for the 2024 film CAUGHT BY THE TIDES. Directed by Jia Zhang-ke and starring Zhao Tao, the film premiered at the In Competition section of the 77th Cannes Film Festival. The production began at the turn of the millennium and spanned a total of twenty-one years. Through the perspective of Qiaoqiao, the female protagonist portrayed by Zhao Tao, the film uses experimental documentary footage to guide the audience through a deeply authentic journey across time.
This marks another collaboration between director Jia Zhang-ke and composer Lim Giong. As in their previous work, Lim builds the score on his signature dreamlike synthesizer textures. Additionally, by incorporating diverse styles and drawing on musical materials from different periods, he imbues the film’s soundtrack with distinct impressions of each era.
In addition to the score of CAUGHT BY THE TIDES, this release also includes, for the first time ever, the scores Lim Giong composed for three commercials directed by Jia Zhang-ke over the years. Produced under the supervision of Lim Giong himself, the album features new mixing and mastering by his longtime collaborator Ben Wang, with album artwork designed by Su Maolin.
This is a limited edition of 500 units, each individually numbered for collections.

2024年公開映画『新世紀ロマンティクス』のために作曲家リン・チャンが手掛けたオリジナル・サウンドトラックCDが世界初リリース！
トラックリストジャ・ジャンクー監督、チャオ・タオ主演の本作は、第77回カンヌ国際映画祭コンペティション部門で初上映されました。制作は2000年代初頭に始まり、総計21年に及ぶ歳月をかけて完成した。チャオ・タオ演じるヒロイン・喬喬の視点を通し、実験的なドキュメンタリー映像を用いて観客を時代を超えた深く真実味あふれる旅へと誘う。
出会いと別れを繰り返す一組の男女を主人公に、大きな変貌を遂げてきた21世紀の中国とそこに生きる人々の歩みを、「青の稲妻」や「長江哀歌」など過去作の映像素材を織り交ぜつつ、大胆かつリアルに描き出した集大成的人生ドラマ。
本作はジャ・ジャンクー監督と作曲家リム・ギオンの再びのタッグとなる。前作同様、リムは自身の代名詞である夢幻的なシンセサイザーの質感でスコアを構築。さらに多様なスタイルを取り入れ、各時代の音楽素材を引用することで、映画のサウンドトラックにそれぞれの時代特有の印象を吹き込んでいる。
本作『新世紀ロマンティクス』のスコアに加え、本リリースでは初めて、リン・チャンが過去数年にわたりジャ・ジャンクー監督が手がけた3本のCMのために作曲したスコアも収録。リン・チャン自身監修のもと制作された本アルバムは、長年の共同作業者であるベン・ワンによる新たなミキシングとマスタリングを施し、アルバムアートワークはスー・マオリンがデザインを担当している。
