Quartet Records presents premiere release of the complete score composed by Carlo Rustichelli (L’isola di Arturo, La lunga notte del ’43, Avanti!, Delitto d’amore, Kapo) for the star-studded anthology film RoGoPaG.
During the 1960s, Italian cinema enjoyed a renaissance of portmanteau films?a collection of shorts culled into larger productions organized around a common theme. The 1963 RoGoPaG gained its title from the four directors behind the camera: Roberto Rossellini, Jean-Luc Godard, Pier Paolo Pasolini and Ugo Gregoretti. The shorts cover a wide variety of subjects from sexual obsession to consumerism, but arguably the most famous vignette is Pier Paolo Pasolini's segment about the making of a religious epic.
Rustichelli’s RoGoPaG largely consists of colorful vignettes anchored by the “Rogopag Twist,” which plays before each short’s opening credits. Each story is infused with musical jokes galore: Rossellini’s stewardess segment quotes “Casta diva,” the best-known aria from Vincenzo Bellini’s opera Norma, while Pasolini's segment references Verdi's La traviata and the “Eclisse Twist” from Michelangelo Antonioni’s L’eclisse. The classic Gregorian motive “Dies Irae” also makes an appearance in the sacrilegious story.
RoGoPaG had an EP release which featured one version of the connective “Twist,” one track from “Illibatezza,” the opening of “La racotta” and three tracks from “Il pollo ruspante.” This Quartet Records release features the entire score for the first time, mastered by Claudio Fuiano from first-generation master tapes courtesy of Gruppo Sugar, including a fair share of Rustichelli’s delicious musical jokes. The 8-page booklet includes detailed liner notes by Gergely Hubai , discussing both film and score. ---レーベルより

第1話:ロッセリーニ監督「潔白」・・・国際線キャビン・アテンダントに恋した男の偏執狂的異常な行動。
第2話:ゴダール監督「新世界」・・・人々の変化、世界の終わるさまを記録する男。パリ上空では核爆発が起きていた。
第3話:パゾリーニ監督「ラ・リコッタ(意志薄弱な男)」・・・<キリスト磔刑>の映画撮影地。磔にされた信者を演じる男の役者は、
マグダラのマリア役の女のストリップを見て悶絶、彼は貧しく空腹だったため、現場でチーズを食べ過ぎ、実際の十字架の上で死ぬことに・・・。
映画監督を演じるのは怪優O・ウェルズ。(映画発表当時、本編は公開禁止となり、宗教に対する不謹慎な描写を理由にパゾリーニは逮捕されてしまう。)
第4話:グレゴレッティ監督「にわとり」・・・消費社会の現代で、マスコミに振り回される俗人夫婦の滑稽。1963年伊・仏。
