Original score from the 2024 drama feature film directed by Sean McNamara, starring Dennis Quaid, Penelope Anne Miller and Jon Voight, produced by Alluwee Productions, MJM Entertainment and Rawhide Pictures, and released by Showbiz Direct (USA).
THE STORY: A drama based on the life of Ronald Reagan, from his childhood to his time in the oval office.
THE SCORE: In starting out on the Reagan score it was important to create an emotional tone that appropriately captured the essence of who he was and support the narrative that would help tell the story without being too overbearing. My approach was very deliberate in terms of establishing multiple themes and leitmotifs. This included four primary themes: Reagan's Americana theme, which comes to full realization in the climax of his Brandenburg Gate speech (‘Tear Down This Wall'), the Soviet-Russian theme inspired by the 1866 traditional Russian Song of the Volga Boatmen, the Ron and Nancy love theme, and the ‘Rendezvous with Destiny' theme representing Reagan's call to challenge the threat of Communism, both globally and it's infiltration of Hollywood during the 1930s and 1940s. Using a full orchestra was important to establish the grandeur and gravitas of a traditional Hollywood score as well as incorporating and blending electronic pulses and textures. It is my hope that this score paints the story of Reagan's emotional journey to the 'Shining City Upon A Hill'. - John Coda
THE COMPOSER: Award-winning composer, songwriter and music artist John Coda has been writing music for film, television and multimedia for over three decades. Known in Hollywood for having penned the theme song for the hit Disney series That's So Raven, which earned Coda a BMI Television Award and an RIAA Gold Record, his work in television also includes the music of Disney's Even Stevens and Nickelodeon's The Secret World of Alex Mack. His work on the score of The King's Daughter won the Public Choice Award at the 2022 World Soundtrack Awards in Ghent, Belgium. John Coda resides in Los Angeles, enjoying the Southern California lifestyle with family and friends. In his spare time, he performs nyckelharpa with his Cliff Jammers ensemble on the Santa Monica Bluffs. In addition to musical endeavors, he is an avid outdoorsman and oil painter.
