『ワルソー・ゲットー』『L'Apocalypse des animaux』のフレデリック・ロジフが監督した『動物たち』は、他の映画から編集したショットと、この長編映画のために新たに撮影したショットを組み合わせた野心的な野生動物ドキュメンタリー映画。このドキュメンタリーは、世界の誕生から地上の楽園の再発見までを9つのパートに分け、野生動物と家畜にスポットライトを当てた、流れるような物語である。音楽が重要な役割を果たし、モーリス・ジャールはスクリーンの中の動物たちとともにイマジネーションを膨らませる。ハモンドオルガン、チェンバロ、ベル、チェレスタ、ハープ、エレクトリックベース、オンド・マルトノ......）。パーカッションを巧みに使い、一風変わったソノリティと意外な楽器の組み合わせが特徴的なこの楽譜は、何よりも興味深い音の組み合わせを追求した作曲家の姿勢が反映されている。

In collaboration with Warner Chappell Music France, Music Box Records proudly presents the remastered and expanded edition of Maurice Jarre’s score to the 1963 film Les Animaux (The Animals).
Les Animaux, directed by Frederic Rossif (To Die in Madrid, L'Apocalypse des animaux), is an ambitious wildlife documentary that combined edited shots from other films and new ones shot specifically for this feature film. The documentary is a flowing, teeming narrative divided into nine parts, going from the creation of the world to the rediscovery of an earthly paradise and shines the spotlight on wild and domestic animals. The music plays a significant part, allowing Maurice Jarre to let his imagination run wild along with the animals onscreen. The composer gathers a fantasy instrumentarium, typical of his musical langage (Hammond organ, harpsichord, bells, celesta, harp, electric bass, Ondes Martenot…). Characterized by a masterful use of percussion combined with unusual sonorities and surprising instrumental associations, the score reflects above all the composer’s quest for interesting sound combinations.
