Mutant, in partnership with Milan Records, is proud to release the official soundtrack album for Edgar Wright's sci-fi action thriller The Running Man.
The album features the film's original music composed by Academy AwardR-winner Steven Price (Gravity, Last Night in Soho, Baby Driver). The Running Man is co-written and directed by Wright and follows a working-class father desperate to save his sick daughter, who enters a deadly television game show competition where contestants must survive 30 days while being hunted by professional assassins, and whose instincts, defiance, and grit turn him into an unexpected fan favorite ? and a threat to the entire system.
We're huge fans of both Edgar and Steven, and it's great to see them creating another killer time at the movies. Steven Price's score for The Running Man is a dazzling mix of propulsive beats, gurgling synths, and traditional orchestral elements that fizz with invention and style. The central theme has an elegant, timeless quality, with lush, calming strings weaving a hypnotic melody. Contrast this with the tracks that accompany the game show segments, which are really fun, bombastic, and retro, and which again contrast with the more sinister, dystopian pieces scattered throughout. Placed within the film, the music feels like another character pushing the story along. As a standalone listen, it is engaging, dynamic, and really fun, and it perfectly captures the many tones and moods of the film.
