The soundtrack of ''4 Flies of Grey Velvet'' is one of the many Cinevox rarities, birthed more than 50 years ago by the genius of composer Ennio Morricone, in the heyday of Italian genre cinema, years in which real masterpieces were made, often innovative in various respects (plot, photography, colors, settings, screenplay. ..). "4 Flies of Grey Velvet" concludes Dario Argento's so-called 'animal trilogy,' and sees the director at an absolutely inspired moment, still probably unconscious of the indelible imprint he will leave on the history of world cinema with his later works. The film for some obscure reason was never officially released on videotape - except, perhaps, in an obscure French edition - and only recently was it finally released on optical disc, while of the soundtrack only a 45 rpm single was pressed at the time, before it was recovered in its entirety in the 1990s. In "4 Flies..." Morricone writes one of his most 'rock-oriented' soundtracks ever - without, of course, neglecting his indelible touch - also by virtue of the fact that the film's protagonist is a rock drummer. One senses echoes of Deep Purple, not coincidentally since the director would have wanted the English band to write the music, as it is no coincidence that Argento's most famous film is titled... Deep Red!
