INTRADAの12枚目となるアルバム新録音プロジェクト「凸凹フランケンシュタインの巻／ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE KEYSTONE KOPS」がリリース！このプロジェクトはキックスターターのキャンペーンで資金を集め、ウィリアム・T・ストロンバーグ指揮ロイヤル・スコティッシュ・ナショナル管弦楽団を再び起用。ストロンバーグが『フランケンシュタインの館』、『フランケンシュタインの幽霊』、『フランケンシュタインの復活』、『狼男』など、ホラー・シリーズの初期作品のスコアを指揮して以来、このタイトルはしばしばリクエストされていました。レコーディングは2024年9月初旬に行われ、オーケストラはこの音楽を演奏することがいかに新鮮で楽しかったかを喜んでコメントしていました。スコアは、惜しくも亡くなったジョン・モーガン、ビル・ストロンバーグ、アンナ・ストロンバーグによって再構成された。アルバムのミックスと編集はリー・フィリップス、マスタリングはレイ・ファイオラとクリス・マローンが担当し、ファイオラによるライナーノーツも掲載されている。実に爽快な映画音楽の待望のリリースである。

『フランケンシュタイン』の音楽を担当した作曲家フランク・スキナーは、シリーズの初期作品に携わっていたこともあり、ほとんどシリアスな内容に徹した。彼の洗練されたスコアは、フランツ・ワックスマンとハンス・サルターの足跡をたどることで、映画に豊かな次元を与えると同時に、すべてをより滑稽なものにしている。ボーナスとして、INTRADAは、ヘンリー・マンシーニのテーマとスコア、ウィリアム・ラヴァとハーマン・スタインの追加スコアリングをフィーチャーした『ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET THE KEYSTONE KOPS』を収録。このアルバムは、RSNOの力強くインスピレーション溢れる演奏が満載で、INTRADAのエクスカリバー・コレクションに加わりました。

『凸凹フランケンシュタインの巻』・・・ユニバーサルのクラシック･モンスター達が総登場する最後の作品で、バッド・アボット、ルー・コステロ、コンビによる凸凹シリーズ１４作目。チック（アボット）とウィルバア（コステロ）は鉄道の荷物係で、ある時ドラキュラ（ベラ・ルゴシ）とフランケンシュタイン（グレン・ストレンジ）の遺骸の入った籠をマクドゥガルの化物屋敷に配達したが、死体は逃走してしまった。2人は満月の夜本性を現す狼男と称するロウレンス・タルボット（ロン・チャニー）に出会う。彼はドラキュラがフランケンシュタインに脳を提供するのを妨げようとして欧州から渡って来たのだと、2人に告げた。仮面舞踏会の夜、ウィルバアはドラキュラに連れ出され、付近の島でその脳をフランケンシュタインに取られてしまうことになった。チックと狼男タルボットは仲間の失踪を知ると早速救援に出かけた。ウィルバアがまさにいけにえにされようとした時、昇って来た満月はタルボットを狼にし、彼はドラキュラを追ってともに崖から落ちてしまった。難を逃れた2人は、フランケンシュタインが追って来るのでボートに逃げ込んだ。乗り込んで来た怪物は、ついに活力つきて水に飛び込んだので、やっと2人は助かった。

Intrada presents its 12th album recording project?Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein/Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops. The project was generously funded through a Kickstarter campaign, and again proudly features the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under the baton of William T. Stromberg. It was an oft-requested title ever since Stromberg conducted scores to earlier titles in the horror series, including House of Frankenstein, Ghost of Frankenstein, Son of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man and many more. The recording occurred in early September 2024, with a delighted orchestra commenting on how refreshing and fun it was to perform the music. The score was reconstructed by the late and sorely missed John Morgan, Bill Stromberg and Anna Stromberg. The album was mixed and edited by Leigh Phillips and mastered by Ray Faiola and Chris Malone, featuring liner notes by Faiola as well. It's the long-awaited release of some truly effervescent film music.

For scoring duties on Frankenstein, composer Frank Skinner, who had worked on earlier pictures in the series, largely kept it serious. His sophisticated score is the straight man to the antics on screen, giving the film a rich dimension by following in the footsteps of Franz Waxman and Hans Salter, while at the same time making everything even funnier. As a bonus, Intrada is pleased to include the hyped-up antics of Abbott and Costello Meet the Keystone Kops, featuring theme and score by Henry Mancini with additional scoring by William Lava and Herman Stein. It's a packed album full of vigorous and inspired performances by the RSNO and a proud addition to Intrada's Excalibur Collection.
