Digitmovies, in collaboration with the Sugar Group, presents Volume XXVI of the series dedicated to the Italian Peplum by issuing on CD the complete OST, in full stereo, by Francesco De Masi for the movie “Maciste l’eroe piu grande del mondo” (aka “Goliath and the Sins of Babylon”) directed in 1963 by Michele Lupo and starring Mark Forest, Giuliano Gemma, Jose Greci, Erno Crista, Livio Lorenzon. Each year the defeated kingdom of Udor, must sacrifice 24 virgins to the gods of Cafaus, the barbaric rival town. Maciste (Forest) gets into town and the girls are dragged to sacrifice by order of the tyrant of Cafaus. As he can't bear to stand by and watch the vile operation, the hero intervenes. This is the beginning of a series of adventures which will conclude with a return to justice. At that time, C.A.M. issued a 33 rpm (CMS 30.094) with twenty selections and a duration of 41:14, reprinted in stereo on CD in 1993, (CAM CSE 111). For our CD project we could use the stereo master tapes of the original session that allowed us to discover thirteen new tracks (28:57) which yields a total time to 70:11. Francesco De Masi has composed a varied symphonic score featuring an epic march motif introduced in “Main Titles” (Tr.1), alternated with a romantic love theme (Tr.4, Tr.10) and several dramatic as well as mysterious battle themes as in Tr.2, Tr.4, Tr.6, Tr.7, Tr.9, Tr.12, Tr.14, Tr.19. For the character of the dwarf, Maestro De Masi has written a funny theme (Tr.13, Tr.22) in contrast with the glorious atmosphere of the plot. Among the many new tracks we can find an interesting alternate take without the eardrums of the “Main Titles” (Tr.21) which was not used in the film. This CD is a necessary rescue and preservation in honor of the great musical art of Francesco De Masi. ---レーベルより

トラックリスト紀元前二世紀。ネフェル王国は平和であったが、隣国から戦争をしかけられ敗れた。殺された王の弟ペルガソは隣国のモラケブのいいなりで暴政を振っていた。王にはレジア（ホゼ・グレチ）という娘がいた。王女は毎年行われる戦車競技の勝利者を夫とし、王国を継ぐことになっていたが王女は自ら競技に出、敗れたことがなかった。国境に住むマチステ（マーク・フォレスト）とクサンドロス（ジュリアーノ・ジェンマ）はネフェル王国の奪還を誓っていた。クサンドロスはケリマという女を愛していたが、彼は女にすすめられて競技に出ることにした。ペルガソはレジア王女がケリマという名で街に出て恋する男があると知り、刺客に命令してクサンドロスに傷を負わせた。戦車競技の当日、クサンドロスに代ってマチステが出、見事に勝利を収めた。二人の協力者貴族のエバンドロとアルチェオら、王国の勇士の一隊はネフェル王国再建のため、マチステに協力、モラケブを倒した。ネフェル国の勇士の顔に久しく絶えた喜びの色が満ちた。クサンドロスとレジアは結ばれた。...「世界一の剣闘士」（64）へ続く。出演：マーク・フォレスト、ジュリアーノ・ジェンマ。1963年伊。
