On the final day of the Vuelta a Espana, Pepe's teammate Ciocci fixed a mourning badge to himself in memory of his hometown mentor, and hero Marco . . . who had just committed suicide. Pepe remains determined to revere Marco as a a hero, Ciocci begins to feel the weight of the ascetic lifestyle of a racer and considers retirement. With sadness in his breast, Ciocci sets off with Pepe to the Japanese town of Utsunomiya for the Japan Cup. And it was there that they met volunteer Hikaru.
