Michel Legrand, a five-time Grammy and three-time Oscar winner, is a master of film music. The composer Michel Legrand himself developed his immortal masterpiece "LES PARAPLUIES DE CHERBOURG" (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) into a colorful suite in this masterpiece. It is performed by the prestigious London Symphony Orchestra, familiar to audiences from the Star Wars films. The coupling is a variation of the theme song from the movie “The Go-Between” (1970), performed by two pianos and orchestra. Legrand's arrangement is symphonic, but with the addition of a rhythm section in the full London Symphony Orchestra, it sometimes sounds like a jazzy big band. The use of strings is also very well handled, and Legrand's talent is on full display in this masterful recording.
