This western finds a veteran U.S. cavalry officer retiring from his position as Indian scout. Sam Varner (Gregory Peck) runs across Sarah Carver (Eva Marie Saint) and her catatonic son after the duo escapes from an Indian camp and years of enslavement. Sam takes the them to the safety of his ranch as the two hope their harrowing ordeal is over. Fellow scout Nick Tana (Robert Forster) rides by to warn Sam that the Indian Salvaje (Nathaniel Narcisco) is out to retrieve the escapees. He seeks out Sam for the inevitable showdown in this exciting sagebrush saga. 1968
