This medical business suspense drama centers on an MR (Medical Representative)?essentially a sales representative for a pharmaceutical company who visits healthcare professionals such as doctors and pharmacists to provide and gather information on prescription drugs and promote their proper use?and depicts the behind-the-scenes realities of the pharmaceutical industry and the healthcare field, as well as the inner conflicts of those who deal with matters of life and death. It is based on a novel by Y? Kusakabe, a master of medical mysteries. The Japanese pharmaceutical industry has a market size of approximately 10 trillion yen. It takes 10 to 15 years and tens of billions of yen in research and development costs to bring a single new drug to market, yet the probability of a drug actually reaching the market is roughly 1 in 25,000. Set in the pharmaceutical industry?where numerous organizations and stakeholders are involved in the development of a single drug?the series profoundly depicts the struggles of MRs and others working in a field that deals with human lives as they navigate the tension between sales competition and medical ethics. Osamu Mukai plays Masaki Kio, an MR at "Tenpo Pharmaceutical" who strives to uphold his belief in "patients first" while caught between patients, doctors, and the pharmaceutical company. Jun Kaname plays Atsushi Samejima, an MR who adheres to a strictly profit-driven philosophy; Yoshinori Masakado plays Kazumi Ichihashi, a rookie MR at "Tenpo Pharmaceutical"; and Kosuke Toyohara plays Kazuhiko Igarashi, an executive officer and head of the sales division at "Tenpo Pharmaceutical." The cast also features a diverse ensemble of talented actors, each with their own distinct personalities. The music is provided by jizue, an instrumental band based in Kyoto.
