Grace, a woman who has not fit in with her surroundings since she was a child, has lived a life of loneliness. Her heart is based on collecting snails, but through encounters and bonds with unique people, she gradually discovers hope for life... This moving clay animation gently depicts her tumultuous life full of humor and surprises.
Adam Elliott, director of "Mary and Max," created this latest work after a 15-year absence, hand-crafting a total of 135,000 cuts, frame by frame.
The bumpy textures and awkward, quirky characters are reminiscent of early Tim Burton films, and delicately embody the director's love of human imperfection. The film's perspective on the joys and sorrows of life, interwoven with black humor and bitter reality, has garnered rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, and has swept film awards around the world, including an Academy AwardR nomination for this year's Lunar AwardR.
