The new “Hakken-den” interweaves the “Hakken-den part” that depicts the fate of the eight swordsmen drawn to the eight beads to break the Satomi family curse with dynamic VFX, and the “creation part” through the strange friendship between Takizawa Bakin, the writer who created the story, and ukiyoe artist Katsushika Hokusai.
Despite losing his sight, Bakin continued to dictate and write, spending 28 years to complete 106 books, a feat that is still talked about today as the greatest miracle in the history of Japanese literature. The story of “Hakkenden,” depicted from the author's point of view along with the anguish and struggle of creating the story, will lead us to an unprecedented cinematic experience.

Directed and written by Fumihiko Sori. The film stars Koji Yakusho in the lead role, and co-stars a superb cast including Seiyo Uchino, Tao Tsuchiya, Yuto Isomura, Haru Kuroki, Chiaki Kuriyama, and Shinobu Terajima.
