Stalker murders, police misconduct, the death of a close friend...
But the case was just beginning.

A female university student living in Hirai City, Aichi Prefecture, was murdered by the eldest son of a Shinto shrine after being repeatedly stalked by him. Later, the local Yonesaki Shimbun (newspaper) scooped the case exclusively, reporting that the Hirai Chuo Police Department's Community Safety Division had delayed accepting a report from the female student, and that she had gone on a consolation trip during that time. Izumi Moriguchi of the prefectural police's Public Relations and Hearing Section suspects that her best friend Chika Tsumura, a newspaper reporter, may have broken her promise to report the story, and Chika begins an investigation to prove her innocence, only to be found dead a week later. Moved by remorse and regret, Izumi throws herself into a battle of mourning for her best friend. Then she discovers that the stalker murders and police scandals are connected to a cult that once caused a major incident. ......
