This superb 3CD collection of some of the greatest Hollywood tunes from the Golden Age of Cinema affords nearly three hours of nostalgic indulgence.

The compilation focuses on such key figures of the early film composer generation as Max Steiner, Franz Waxman and Erich Korngold. Having rejected the modernist music of Schoenberg and Stravinsky in favour of the German Romantic tradition, theirs was a richly orchestrated, symphonic style of writing that became known as the ‘Hollywood Sound’.

This is the first time these historic recordings have been available together. CD1 contains the historic recording of the Suite from Gone with the Wind, as well as other Steiner film score excerpts, conducted by the composer in the 1930s. New booklet text explores the sound and legacy of these defining scores in the history of film.
