Original score from the 2024 action feature film directed by Thomas Vincent, starring Kaley Cuoco, David Oyelowo and Connie Nielsen, produced by Studiocanal and released by Amazon Prime.
Track ListTHE STORY: Emma has a wonderful husband and two kids in the suburbs of New Jersey. She also has a secret life as an assassin for hire, a secret that her husband Dave discovers when the couple decide to spice up their marriage with a little role play.
THE SCORE: “Much like Emma’s double life, we had very varying roles to play in writing this soundtrack. First there is the family side of the story. Dave and Emma have a recurring theme which connects them together, piano doubled with softly plucked autoharp, close and intimate. We hear a sad version of this in ‘My Wife, My Everything.’ Then there is a very different side to Emma ? an incredibly capable assassin. Fight sequences are accompanied by stark prepared piano and a wide range of hand percussion. There is often a thread of comedy woven into these sequences, accompanied by melodic fragments of marimba and piano in the track ‘Rampage’ for example. Our main antagonist, Carver, is a creepy, almost maternal presence. Her influence over Emma is depicted with a quiet female voice, like a twisted lullaby. We hear this in the ‘Carver’s Theme’ tracks.” ? Rael Jones
THE COMPOSERS: Rael Jones is an Emmy and Ivor Novello nominated composer and multi-instrumentalist. He has written scores for a diverse range of films and TV including Mrs Harris Goes to Paris, My Cousin Rachel, Suite Francaise, The Salisbury Poisonings and Harlots, as well as crafting the music for the Oasis and Coldplay feature documentaries. Earlier in his career, Rael filled many other film music department roles (producer, editor, programmer, additional composer, orchestrator and musician) on projects such as Les Miserables, Quantum of Solace, The Inbetweeners movies, The Alan Partridge Movie and the BBC Series Sherlock. His writing centres around live instrumental playing across all genres.
Most musicians, if they are lucky, will master one craft or field within their career. For Michael Price, he’s managed three, with his music spanning across piano, orchestral and soundtrack work. The soundtrack work ? for TV shows such as Sherlock, Dracula and Unforgotten, and films such as Eternal Beauty, Cheerful Weather and Wild Child ? has seen Price win an Emmy, as well as receive countless nominations (including a BAFTA nomination and an Ivor Novello nomination earlier this year for his work on Dracula, with David Arnold). His work as a solo artist takes the form of beautiful improvised piano works, as heard on albums like Diary (2017), or via lush, grand, hyper-detailed orchestral work, as heard on critically acclaimed releases such as Entanglement (2015) and Tender Symmetry (2018).
