IL LUNGO SILENZIO

IL LUNGO SILENZIO (aka THE LONG SILENCE) is a drama movie directed in 1993 by Margarethe Von Trotta and starring Carla Gravina, Jacques Perrin, Alida Valli, Ottavia Piccolo. A story of fear -in a more or less near future- in any Italian city, Rome, for example, the symbol of collusion between political and criminal powers, and not only. Here lives Carla Aldrovandi (Gravina), a gynecologist, with her husband Marco Canova (Perrin), a high judge engaged with the corruption the Mafia unleashes at the Italian judicial system. They live with terror and frequent serious threats. Committed to a complex investigation on corruption, Canova could be killed at any moment. Inevitably this will occur and will push Carla to react. Other victims like herself are influenced to break the conspiracy of silence (The Long Silence) that criminal minds uses to perpetrate their unending brutal and bloody killing and vendettas. Ennio Morricone musically perfectly interprets the female universe and the harsh and unbearable psychology of the protagonist immerse in a painful world. This is an appropriate score to exult women's emotional sides with intensity and delicately as well. A rhythmic theme, almost rock, where the soprano voice bursts out and symbolically breaks the conspiracy of the silence, a terrible secret-taboo, like an impenetrable wall between the protagonist and the truth. Morricone alternates noir, mystery and distrust to other softer music, almost romantic, always obvious veiled melancholy. For this CD (46:13) we used the recorded master originally assembled by Morricone himself (the master tapes of the original sessions are still lost) properly restored and digitally remastered in a new experience of sound.
