Summer holiday adventure, a robbery, a beautiful girl and moral predicaments of young people - that’s the plot of Kazimierz Kutz’s film which hasn’t lost any of its touch with reality, as the music by Adam S?awi?ski, for the rest. This soundtrack is one of the most beautiful cases of flirtation with the universe of jazz in the career of this composer.
Track ListAdam S?awi?ski’s music to “Skok” combines some summer-holiday lightness with lyrical musings. The film recounts the story of two friends who, after their failed maturity exam, decide to travel to the Baltic Sea in search for some rest, for a job and the meaning of life. This gave a lot of room for illustrative options, and S?awi?ski draws here from his fascination with jazz, crisscrossing lengthy, flowing phrases of trumpet or saxophone with subtle sounds of the string section. There is still room for lovely bossa nova with great flute parts and even for the instrumental version of the composer’s rock & roll song. “Skok” is a piece of psychological cinema with an action plot which impresses even today and is propelled into excellence by a stellar cast - with Daniel Olbrychski, Marian Opania and Ma?gorzata Braunek at the top of the list. Its soundtrack, composed by S?awi?ski, is a true jewel, which nearly fifty years later may finally shine in its full glow.
After a massively successful soundtrack for “Czterej pancerni i pies”, “Skok” is yet another fruit of a long-term partnership between CeTA and GAD Records set up to preserve and publish the wealth of former tape archives. You will find there lots of unreleased film music by Andrzej Korzy?ski, Piotr Hertel, W?odzimierz Nahorny, Jerzy Derfel and Wojciech Kilar.
