This CD marks the first-ever release of historic recordings in which two of Japan's leading composers, Toru Takemitsu and Toshiro Mayuzumi, spoke with Kuniharu Akiyama about their film music.
These precious recordings were discovered half a century later among the personal archives of music critic Kuniharu Akiyama. In addition to interview recordings from the series "People Who Shaped the History of Japanese Film Music," which ran in "Kinema Junpo" magazine from 1971 to 1978, this release includes a rare interview with Toru Takemitsu conducted after the completion of the film "Dodesukaden".
From his collaborations with masters such as Akira Kurosawa and Kenji Mizoguchi, to the creative process behind film music, and the future of the medium itself… these first-rate testimonies?indispensable for understanding the history of Japanese cinema and music?are vividly brought to life in the composer's own voice.
In these intimate conversations?made possible only by Kuniharu Akiyama?the candid and lively manner in which Toru Takemitsu and Toshiro Mayuzumi speak reveals a side of them rarely glimpsed in existing video and audio archives.
