Cinevox Record is pleased to present the complete OST and for the first time in stereo by Ennio Morricone from “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage”, directed in 1969 by Dario Argento. The artistic synergy Argento-Morricone began precisely with “The Bird with the Crystal Plumage” in 1969, and then continued with the other classic “The Cat o ‘Nine Tails” (1970) and “Four Flies on Grey Velvet” (1971) . The two artists worked together again in 1995, after a break lasting twenty-four years, on the occasion of “The Stendhal Syndrome” and then in 1998 with “The Phantom of the Opera.”
On records this OST was issued by Cinevox in 1970 on the album (in mono) MDF 33/31, while in the US Capitol released a 33 rpm in stereo (Capitol Records ST-642) with material in part alternative than the Italian record and with a bizarre tracks list.
Italian nine tracks on the album (with the exception of the brief “Se sei stonato”) was reprinted in 1981 on label Cerberus (CEM-S 0108). Always in mono sound, this OST was then engraved on vinyl in Ciak series at low price(CIA 5036) and then the first reissue on CD of Ciak series (5087 CD-CIA) combined with the OST of “Four Flies on Grey Velvet” and the same mono reprinted material in Japan on label SLC (SLCS 7144). In 1998 Cinevox still has revived the OST in mono with two extra tracks (MDF 313). In recent times we have found the tapes in stereo of the original recording session, and this has allowed us, after a long and careful process of restoration and digitalremastering to present this OST with the best possible sound in homage to art film by Dario Argento and the music by Ennio Morricone. This CD contains the themes of the original 33 rpm LP in full stereo (except track 10 which has not survived in stereo and we did a stereo effect for listening purpose) and several unreleased tracks in full stereo (except track 19 of which the stereo mix does not exist. The listener can then travel in a unique and fascinating sound dimension with impressive clarity to seize every registered instrument and the special vocal performances of Cantori Moderni. A dream come true for fans of Ennio Morricone in the world and fans of the great Film Dario Argento. A de-luxe booklet with twelve color pages motivates like right iconographic testimony this very important music rescue.
