Digitmovies continues to explore the world of Toto by publishing, in it’s entirety for the first time, the OST of Armando Trovajoli from the movie “Toto e Peppino divisi a Berlino” (aka “Toto and Peppino divided in Berlin”), directed in 1962 by Giorgio Bianchi and starring Toto, Peppino De Filippo, Nadine Sanders, Luigi Pavese, Robert Alda, Peter Dane, Renato Terra, Dante Maggio, Renata Monteduro, Carlo Pisacane, Michele Tivot. Before the Anglo-American court in West Berlin the trial against war criminal Admiral Canarinis is being celebrated. A couple of Nazis approach Toto, who is a peddler with an excellent likeness to Canarinis and they offer him for a fee of ten million to take his place. Toto accepts, not even knowing the sins of the man who he will replace. However, when he realises the reality of things, he explains the truth to Americans who then release him. This is long with Peppino Paglialunga (De Filippo), who receives from the same pair the promise of ten million to depose against Toto-Canarinis. When they arrive in East Berlin, the Russians who want to use them to decrypt American messages and discover the routes of “spy-flights”, stop them. However, the pair mistake the book ''Smorfia'' (book of numbers used for the lottery) for a secret code and cause the destruction of a Soviet aircraft. The two manage to escape, but once again, just when they think they're safe, they find themselves on an aircraft that leads them to Beijing. For our CD, which lasts 38:00 minutes, we used the mono master tapes of the original recording session. Armando Trovajoli has composed and directed a charming OST, based on a recurring main theme, which the author introduces on a samba rhythm during the opening credits. It is picked up again with different arrangements and alternating with military marches that are an apt portrayal of the iron curtain atmosphere in which the two protagonists are enmeshed. This CD of ours wants to be a sincere tribute to the comicality of Toto, Peppino De Filippo and the Musical Art of Armando Trovajoli. -- from the label.
