SESSO MATTO (Complete Expanded Edition)

Aka HOW FUNNY CAN SEX BE? Here we are, almost 30 years have passed and one of the most beautiful soundtracks of the 1970s returns to again give us proof of Maestro Armando Trovajolius never-ending charm! SESSO MATTO, the cult movie directed by Dino Risi and with amazing performances by Laura Antonelli and Giancarlo Giannini, has a great soundtrack composed by our beloved Maestro. It is a masterpiece we wanted to release with extra-special care as a new Compact Disc. Here is the history: In 1973 Beat pressed the album of the score that had a nice, sexy cover (reproduced in this edition) with Laura Antonelli dressed (or undressed) as a nun. The music of the album was chosen by Maestro Trovajoli personally, and as often happens; he chose just a portion of the whole score recorded for the film. Time passed by and we arrived in the 1990s. At this time in Japan there exploded a “fever” for SESSO MATTO! Our friends from that distant nation seem to very much appreciate this score composed and recorded 20 years earlier. It grew into a real mania for Japanese music lovers! King International of Japan decided to re-release our original album as a CD and it was a great success. The details of the story become problematic as we reach last year, 2006. For the occasion of our 40 years of activity here at Beat Records we felt obliged to confer a special tribute to this score: a Deluxe Expanded release. The original mix tapes seemed to have disappeared from our archives, and so we had to recover the music from the multi-channel tapes (these are studio master elements in which the instruments are recorded on separated channels). It was required of us to again carefully mix these separate sounds into a single audio channel - a very complex task that required two months of very hard work, but the results are simply incredible! Beat Records Sound Engineer, Enrico De Gemini, performed a monumental task in restoring and remixing all the original instrumental sound elements and the results are more than 70 minutes of beautiful music arranged in the original score sequence, just as the music is heard in the film! There are still more surprises: While restoring the music, one instrument at a time from the original tapes, Enrico discovered that in the track “Sessomatto” (Main Title with Edda Dell'Orso's vocalization), the channel on which Antonello Vannucchi's Hammond Organ was recorded was badly distorted by the neighbouring channel featuring the baritone sax (a studio mistakeu). The original mix had kept the Organ channel low in order to subdue the distortions caused by the offending channel carrying the sounds of the sax. In this release, thanks to current technology, it has been possible to clean that channel and to restore the Hammond Organ contribution to all of its original glory. This track has been added to the CD, along with 7 other cues that had been composed for the score but were later rejected.
