Verita, Yasael, Miserere and Gigante are rogues who live somewhere between Sacramento and San Antonio. The confusion created by the Civil War allows them to disguise themselves as both Union and Confederate soldiers, and, for the purposes of monetary gain, play the role of heroes to both sides. Eventually they are discovered by the southern army and are condemned to death, but end up having to be set free because the war (fortunately for them) ends. Without money they go to work in a pub where they know Paquita. She tells them where they can find gold secretly hidden by a corrupt officer. The four organize a plan to steal the treasure, and they succeed, but during their escape the gold is stolen from them by a “mystery man”.
