NINETEEN EIGHTY-FOUR (Score)

A Rare score CD. Eurythmics' songs are not included on this CD. Nineteen Eighty-Four was director Michael Radford's screen adaptation of George Orwell's classic novel. With an impressive cast including John Hurt, Cyril Cusack, Gregor Fisher, and Richard Burton, the film was nominated for a Best Picture award by the British Academy. The movie was actually filmed on the exact dates and locations of the famous George Orwell novel, and the obsession carries over to this album, which was released exactly fifteen years to the day of the first recording session. Much of Muldowney’s score was never used in the film, replaced instead by the music of the Eurythmics. This is a rare opportunity to hear the score as the director intended. There is a wide variety of musical styles here, from brass band marches and fanfares, to broad choral songs; Cynthia Miller also provides some atmospheric material from the Ondes Martenot. The choral works are performed by The London Voices, the same artists as featured in the prequel Star Wars film scores.
