The original work begins serialization in 1980 in "Weekly Shonen Jump" (published by Shueisha) as "Third Year Kimengumi," and is retitled "High School! Kimengumi" as the characters advance to the next school level, becoming a big hit as a groundbreaking work for its time. In addition, a TV anime is broadcast from 1985 and sparks a major boom. Such "High School! Kimengumi" is produced as a new animation in 2026, in the Reiwa era! The director is Kazuaki Seki, who in recent years serves as director for the films "Kakukaku Shikajika" and "Beethoven Netsuzo," and also works on music videos for various artists such as Perfume, Gen Hoshino, Kaze Fujii, and Vaundy, and is active across a wide range, depicting Kimengumi in line with the feel of the Reiwa era. -- The five, Rei Ichido, Go Reietsu, Kiyoshi Dase, Jin Oma, and Dai Monohoshi, who nominally attend middle school, each have highly individual and outrageous personalities, such as repeating a school year in middle school, and are regarded by those around them as the famed group "Kimengumi."
