Celebrated at numerous film festivals, including winning the Best Feature-Length Animation Award at the Fantasia International Film Festival, and highly praised by Guillermo del Toro, the Academy Award(R)-winning director of "The Shape of Water", the previous film "JUNK HEAD" also drew major attention in Japan, successfully attracting large audiences and achieving box-office success. The latest work, "JUNK WORLD", further deepens the universe established in "JUNK HEAD", unfolding as a tale set in a long-lost future within a vast and complex underground world 1,042 years before the events of "JUNK HEAD". New characters also emerge, dark yet filled with humor and warmth, and the story is brought to life through astonishing handcrafted visuals, featuring imaginative designs and meticulously detailed stop-motion animation. Shot frame by frame and completed over three years of production, a masterpiece of SF stop-motion animation is born. Long ago, as humanity's habitable area on the surface shrank, underground development accelerated. To support this labor, artificial lifeforms resembling humans known as the Marigan were created. However, the Marigan expanded their power by producing their own clones and ultimately rebelled against humanity. 280 years after the Third Armistice Agreement, humanity remained on the surface, while the Marigan ruled an underground world that had spread across the entire planet. Then, anomalies begin to occur in the underground realm. In response, an investigation team is urgently formed to uncover the cause of these disturbances, made up of both humans and Marigan. The human unit, led by a female captain named Tris, and the Marigan unit, led by Dante, the original from whom the clones were derived, head together toward their destination, the underground city of Carpbar. However, they are attacked by the Marigan's cult organization, the Gyura Sect. Their target is Tris, an extremely rare human female. But Tris is accompanied by her robotic guardian Robin. "I will protect Lady Tris." As the team battles the Gyura Sect and presses forward with their investigation, they struggle under the overwhelming difference in firepower. Amid the fierce battle, they discover a dimensional "distortion". To protect Tris, Robin devises a plan that crosses dimensions. What is the true nature of the mystery and anomalies hidden within the underground world, and what decision will Robin ultimately make at the end of a battle that transcends dimensions? Limited Edition (First Press Only) includes a bonus disc featuring making-of footage, the original soundtrack CD, and a storyboard book. Audio options: Japanese Dubbed Version, "Gonyo-Gonyo" Version (Japanese Subtitles), and Barrier-free Audio Guide.
