I bought Set Vol. 1 because 7 SAMURAI is one of my all-time favorite film scores. And, the film, one the masterpieces of cinema. The rest of the CDs may be less accessible to Western ears, but there some very exciting music, particularly for the period films.
I looked forward to Set Vol. 2 and Masaru Satoh's witty scores for YOJINBO & SANJURO. Very accessible mix of east & west. The score for RED BEARD is also quite beautiful. A bonus is a CD of SINGLES -- LPs released for a number of the films. Great fun. Great music.
All in all, I can't imagine anyone interested in the art of film music not wanting these CDs. Pity are is no English translations for the extensive notes.
