To Kill A Mockingbird is one of the greatest films of the last century, and Elmer Bernstein’s soundtrack is no less epic in its creation and execution. His earlier soundtracks, most notably The Magnificent Seven, were grand in scope and scale, but in keeping with the more poignant subject matter and delivery of the film, To Kill A Mockingbird is a much more subtle undertaking. According to several sources the piano player on the To Kill A Mockingbird soundtrack is none other than John Williams, later to become an even greater creator of film scores; Williams obviously learned well at his master’s side.
