Original soundtrack from Tim Burton spook tale features 4 original Danny Elfman songs plus his original score. Elfman's in comfortable territory with ample supply of sinister ideas, minor-mode themes, harpsichord arpeggios, growls from bassoon, all manner of creepy orchestral color. Solo piano gets considerable attention. Elfman also offers considerable restraint, works with carefully drawn motifs, ever-shifting minor-major chords, subtle dynamics - both soft (Main Titles), not so soft (Into the Forest). It's all caught with nuance by Dennis Sands in London's terrific Abbey Road. Marc Mann conducts Metro Voices, Nick Ingman conducts orchestra.
