John Williams, who has received unparalleled acclaim as the composer of Hollywood's classic film scores, wields immense influence not only as a composer but also as a concert conductor. Decca Classics presents the "Phillips Complete Recordings", a collection of his remarkable recordings conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. This 21-CD box set, originally released in 2022 to mark Williams' 90th birthday, now reappears in a new cap box format. Williams' presence at the podium of the Boston Pops Orchestra legitimized the concert hall repertoire of film music, an effect that spread to other orchestras. He commissioned new orchestral arrangements of popular classics, expanding the orchestra's classical repertoire and fusing genres previously treated separately, introducing them to new audiences for "classical" music. This set is the most ideal representation of John Williams' musical technique as a conductor, his superb interpretive abilities, and his wide range of styles. It also features Williams as a pianist performing with Jessye Norman, and albums accompanying songs by Leonard Bernstein, Michel Legrand, Richard Rodgers, Kurt Weill, George Gershwin, Frederick Loewe, and Billy Joel.
