An album of orchestral works left by the genius composer who created "unique sound worlds", together with a suite from his award-winning film music works. World premiere recording.

Deutsche Grammophon is pleased to announce the release of three late works by Icelandic composer prodigy Johan Johansson (1969-2018). All are world premiere recordings. A Prayer To The Dynamo is an orchestral work inspired by Johansson's fascination with technology and in particular by the field recordings he made at the Ellidaar hydroelectric power station outside Reykjavik and the book "The Education of Henry Adams" by American author Henry Adams. A major orchestral work inspired by the book The Education of Henry Adams by American author Henry Adams. It was commissioned by the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra and premiered at their Contemporary Music Festival on February 13, 2012. This work marks a turning point in his career, as it is an orchestral work composed freely and without any of the constraints of film music.

Also included are two suites edited and arranged by the composer himself from Johansson's most successful film soundtrack recordings. The films "Sicario" and "The Theory of Everything" were nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe (The Theory of Everything won for Best Composition), a British Academy Award, a Broadcasting Academy Award, and a Grammy Award. Film Critics Circle Award, and a Grammy Award. The suite was arranged based on purely musical decisions, without reference to the film's narrative.
