Track List[Refreshing Allegro and Beautiful Melodies]
The Yasushi Akutagawa Centenary Commemorative Concert is now on CD!
Yukio Fujioka x Triptyque present the electrifying sound of Akutagawa!!
Master composer Yasushi Akutagawa (1925-1989), who led post-war Japanese music. To mark his centenary, conductor Yukio Fujioka and the Triptyque Orchestra present their heartfelt performance, captured live in high fidelity. The concert was selected as a Suntory Foundation for Arts ‘Keizo Saji Award’ Recommended Concert (20 July 2025, Kitatopia Sakura Hall), marking a historic day.
"The brilliance of youth and the depth of his later years. Yasushi Akutagawa, here and now."
This definitive CD collection revives Akutagawa's works through the masterful interpretation and high-fidelity recording of world-renowned conductor Yukio Fujioka. It spans from his striking early debut pieces to the prayerful final work "Life", and includes the restored original score of the lost film music "Village of Eight Gravestones".
Highlights
1. The Essence of Akutagawa's Sound: A Feast of "Allegro & Ostinato"
From the early masterpiece Music for Symphony Orchestra (1950) to the late work Allegro Ostinato (1986), experience the overwhelming propulsion born of the magic of repetition. Yukio Fujioka's meticulous and passionate conducting draws out the very essence of these works to their utmost limit.
2. Triptych Performed by Triptych
Included as a bonus track is the 2021 masterpiece performance of Akutagawa's seminal work "Triptych in Three Movements for Strings" ? the origin of the orchestra's name ? perfectly executed under Fujioka's baton.
This is a precious recording (first-time disc release) highly praised by Akutagawa Yasushi's widow.
3. Discovery & Complete Revival of the Original Score for the Film "Village of Eight Gravestones"
The long-lost film score has finally been discovered (through sheer determination)!
The grand main title, the chilling soundscape of the 32-person massacre scene, and the theme for the journey blending the rustic and the elegant ? Akutagawa's orchestral legacy is resurrected by a modern orchestra.
4. Recording of the Phantom Orchestral Debut Work!
The "Prelude for Orchestra", performed only once and never revived, receives its professional orchestral premiere and recording.
And it becomes available for rental through Gensh?!
Yukio Fujioka sheds new light on the passion of the young Akutagawa.
5. Commemorative choir of elite members (approx. 50 singers)
Choral conductor Tomoaki Shirai is Principal Conductor of the chamber choir Nissho. Winner of the 8th Choral Conducting Competition for Young Conductors. A rising star in Japan's choral world, he honed his skills with Vienna's Arnold Schonberg Choir. Responding to Shirai's call, "voice specialists" trained in opera and early music at Tokyo University of the Arts, Kunitachi College of Music, and overseas have assembled.
Through uncompromising choral performance, they bring a contemporary musical approach to the cantata "Life".
