A dynamic soundtrack album from the exciting series of the same name, juxtaposing traditional eastern styles with hard edge contemporary western film score. From the indies label. CD-R.
Track ListGuy Gross is one of Australia’s leading film and television composers. From his British Academy Award (BAFTA) nominated score to the international hit “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert” to the US hit SCI-FI series Farscape, his film scores cover a huge variety of styles. Testament to this diversity, Guy has received numerous peer awards from the Australian Guild of Screen Composers (AGSC) and The Australian Performing Rights Association (APRA) including awards for; Best Music for a Documentary, Children’s Series, Short film, Animation, Promotional Video, Advertisement, TV Theme and twice for Best Music for a TV Series.
Over his 25 year career, Guy has composed music for many hundreds of hours of television, including dramatic mini series, children’s animation, documentaries, commercials and a number of Australian feature films. His film music has underscored the acting performances of Toni Collette, Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving, Molly Ringwald, Kylie Minogue, Phil Collins and Guy Pearce and his scores have been performed in concert by the Sydney, Melbourne and Queensland Symphony Orchestras.
East West 101 is a 6- part mini series about the investigations of the Major Crime Squad in Metropolitan Sydney. It is the story of two detectives - one a Muslim, the other Anglo-Australian, and the battle between them for survival. In a post 9/11 world, it is also a metaphor for the fear that exists between East and West when two men search for love, approval and forgiveness, as their destinies collide. Given the terrorist attacks recently in London, Bali and Egypt, this show has enormous international relevance.
“The challenge for the musical underscore of EAST WEST 101 was to carefully balance the tensions and dramas of day to day police work with the human and more emotional story of our main characters. Added to this is the wonderfully rich musical influences I drew upon of the cultural origins of our characters. The whole “east meets west” conflict of the stories is directly reflected in the score. From its instrumentation, to its harmonies and rhythms.” (Guy Gross)
